I’m here in Chicago at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Day one has been great!!! I connected with AmeriCorps Alums at their pre-conference networking event and met AmeriCorps members from all over the country (but surprisingly a lot from Boston… go figure). The event featured great breakout sessions about topics we are passionate about like education, health, homelessness, food deserts, and so much more.
I connected with amazing Baltimore organizations like Notre Dame Mission Volunteers and Social Capital Inc.
I also learned about an awesome project called American Volunteers. This project features two AmeriCorps Alums who have taken their service to the next level. They’ve been traveling around the globe highlighting the volunteering and service community and want to show the world (through a reality tv show) what it means to be an American Volunteer. It’s a really cool concept that’s worth checking out.
I’ll be live tweeting over the next few days about the sessions I attend an the amazing speakers I hear. You can follow me on twitter @Dara_Laine and follow #NCVS for updates from the entire conference.
